| Palakkad:
Palakkad or Palghat as it is popularly known is a classic blend of Tamil and Kerala cultures. It is named after Palghat pass in the western ghats. Palakkad connects Kerala with plains of Tamilnadu. This area is also known to be home to Namboodri Brahmins, a community to whom Adi Shankaracharya belonged.
The area is lush green with paddy fields around and winter is the best time to visit it. There are many places to visit here and important ones are listed here:
Neliayampathi Hills: At a distance of 80 km from Palakkad; is this famous hill station. It is known for the forests around. Ideal spot for a day picnic.
Malampuzha Dam and park: This amusement park on the banks of Malampuzha dam is an interesting place to visit especially if you have children along with. It has boating facility and games.
Silent Valley National Park: It is a reserved forest famous for greenery round the year. It is called Silent valley because you would not find cicada insects here making it a peaceful place. This is one of important forest in western ghat ranges.
Palakkad Fort: This fort was built by Hyder Ali, father of Tipu Sultan, who later lost it to British. The fort is still in good condition and is very close to town. Nice place to visit in the evenings.
