Kelwe:
Though most of the people know Kelwe Beach; very few are aware about many small and interesting places around. Visiting these places would make your two day stay quite exciting and fruitful. Even the journey to these places is very exciting with narrow roads and lush green plantations around. Kelwe is also famous for betel leaves; the leaves grown here are supposed to be generating warmth in the body and have good digestive properties. As per locals; these are very popular among Pakistanis and Arabs.
Kelwe Beach:
Towards north of Mumbai, this is among the better beaches, sand is flat and strong; waves not very strong and hence it is safe. There are no rocks near the beach so swimming is not a problem. The sand is blackish and therefore you would not be able to see blue colour water; but it is not dirty. However the best thing about the beach is the palms of Suru tree alongside of it. Thus, even in a sunny afternoon; you can sit the shade and spend time by the sea.
Danda Bridge:
This bridge, built over a creek connects Kelwe with Danda Village. Standing here you can see Sahyadri range towards east and Arabian Sea, towards west. This makes it ideal spot to see Sunset and Sunrise both, and is at walking distance from the village, so ideal place to go for morning walk.
Bhawangad Fort:
Situated towards south of Kelwe, this is small fort for coastal surveillance. This is the highest altitude point near Kelwe, from here you can see entire area around. At present the fort is in dilapidated condition, but there is a Shiva Temple on top and a natural water tank. Going here is a nice trek of 10-15 minutes and view from top is great. You would see giant roots embracing big stones of the boundry walls.
Shitaladevi Temple:
Right near the beach of Kelwe is the famous Shitaladevi Temple. Visit to this temple is highly refreshing experience with, spacious courtyard. In the courtyard is the Ramkund; the legend is that when Shri Rama was in Vanvas (exiled to forests); he came here. He created this kund(water body), by piercing arrow in the ground. There is a beautiful fountain here, along with lighting system; which adds to the charm in the evenings.
