Malvan:
Malvan is one of the most important towns in the Southern Konkan region of Maharashtra. The importance begins with history of Maratha Empire; wherein Chhatrapati Shivaji built the famous fort of Sindhudurg here. Besides this Malvan is also centre for fisheries and farm products. The city shows glimpse of its cultural heritage in many ways; in the temples around, in the forts around and also in the Malvani theatre.
Nearest Railway station is Kudal, which is also on Mumbai Goa Highway (NH-17). There are a number of buses and trains available to reach here. From Mumbai you can take overnight bus to reach Kudal as well.
Tarkarli Beach:
Tarkarli is the most famous beach here with lot of activity and buzz around. The credit of bringing this beach to fame goes to MTDC, which promoted resort over here aggressively. However, now the room tariffs here are beyond reach of common men. The flat white sand and the sheer expanse of the beach ( approx 6 km long ) is inviting. There are lots of resorts, and bed and breakfasts here.
Chivala Beach:
If you wish to stay close to city and yet enjoy ultimate privacy and peace; then this beach is the answer. Almost 1.5 km of stretch of clean water and white sand is not frequented by many and hence is a boon to those who prefer privacy and peace. The view is picturesque with Sarjekot table land on one end, rocks in between and the flat beach stretching at the other end. This is almost like your own private beach. Besides, the town is at walking distance and connectivity is absolutely not a problem. Not many people know this beach; as Tarkarli is promoted and this is not. However, we highly recommend this beach for families.
Devbaug, Karli river-back waters:
Approximately 12 kms from Malvan, in the south direct ahead of Tarkarli is the village of Devbaug. Here, Karli river meets sea and the back waters host amazing flora and fauna. The beach here is not really big. There are small boats and houseboats available here to take you on backwater tour. On the other side of river in the south direction are Nivati and Bhogwe beach. These beaches are virgin and very beautiful. Going there can be a nice one day trip. On a clear day one can see Vengurla rock in the sea towards south, this island is made of red colour rock and hence is also called Burnt Island.
Brahmanand Swami Samadhi:
As you move on this coastal road, at approximately 4 km from Malvan city is Brahmanand Swami Samadhi. This is a real quiet place, with cave (where swamiji stayed) and water tank. Besides, there are very old trees and dense trees. The place is situated between two hillocks making it a small valley; it offers tremendous peace though it is very close to the busy road.
Besides this, you must visit Rameshwar Temple at Aachare and Kunakeshwar Temple (approx 42 km from Malvan) which is worth-seeing.
Covering all the three locations can be a nice one day trip from Malvan, where you can start after break fast and return to the town in the evening.
